Browser

For convenience, I have included an HTML version, but the game was not made with the intention to be played in a browser, so for the best experience, please consider downloading the Windows version.

If you try to pause the game in the browser (ESC) it will show your cursor instead, so you will have to press ESC again to bring up the pause menu. To hide your cursor again, click "Resume" in the pause menu (you will want to hide your cursor when doing tasks in the game).

AI Warning

Sorry for AI jumpscare. I used AI to generate some images for the opening cutscene since I cannot draw. If I were to finish the game I would replace those images with real art made by a real person.

About

You are an office worker who just wants to get lunch, but your pesky coworker keeps stopping you to ask for favors.

Controls

This game works with both Keyboard/Mouse and Controller (it is easier to play on Keyboard/Mouse). Most of the controls are revealed as you play but these are not:

Keyboard/MouseController
Jump/Accept Dialogue
SpacebarButton 0 (Xbox A)
Pause Menu
ESCButton 6 (Xbox Menu)

Why MetroidVania?

This is my first attempt at a MetroidVania game. After coming up with the concept of the game, I decided it needed a prologue sequence to set up the story before getting into the "real" game. I didn't think it would take me as long as it did, so now the game ONLY consists of the prologue sequence, and thus has no real MetroidVania elements.

I don't know whether this disqualifies my game from the Super MVM game jam, but I am submitting it regardless because I entered the game jam and worked on my game in good faith with the intent to make a MetroidVania.

(SPOILERS FOR THE PROLOGUE)

After the end of the prologue, the protagonist is supposed to have an epiphany and decide to quit his job in pursuit of his long lost goals, but his boss doesn't let him as he is a valuable asset. The tone of the game changes and a boss fight ensues. The rest of the game would be about escaping the corporate world while exploring and progressing in true MetroidVania fashion.

This is a very good game I like the music, and the art looks good. Also, it plays very, very well. I love this game. Good job.
